For questions 1-8, read the text below and think of the word which best fits each gap. Use only one word in each gap.

Last summer, I took a train across the north 1. Spain, and it reminded me that travel does not have to be expensive to be memorable. I had planned to fly, but a friend 2. had been there before said that the railway was slower yet far more relaxing, especially if you like watching the landscape change. In the mornings, I would sit by the window with a coffee, 3. other passengers read, chatted, or simply looked out at the sea. What surprised me most was how often the journey connected culture 4. daily life: at one stop, a small museum showed tools that had been used by local fishermen, and at another, an old station building had been turned into a library, 5. anyone could enter. Although my phone could get a signal in most places, I did not use it much, because the views were better 6. any screen. The route also made me think about the environment, since trains produce less pollution than cars, and they allow you to travel without feeling guilty 7. every kilometre. If I go again, I will spend more time in the villages, where there is no rush, and where people still greet strangers as 8. they might become friends.
