Multiple-choice cloze

For questions 1-8, read the text below and decide which answer (A, B, C or D) best fits each gap.

Last summer I decided to take a short break from my busy office job and travel by train along the coast. I’d been to it for months, because I wanted to and spend more time outdoors. On the first day I a small town that wasn’t in any guidebook, and it turned out to be the highlight of the trip. I joined a local walking group, which was a great way to , even though I usually keep to myself. The guide encouraged us to our rubbish and marked paths, explaining how a few careless choices can damage wildlife. In the evenings I used an app to plan the next route, but I tried not to my phone too much; it’s good to put technology aside and pay attention to what’s around you. When I returned to work, I realised the journey had done more than help me relax. It made me think about my lifestyle and health, and I even made a decision to cycle to the office twice a week. It’s not always convenient, but it saves money, reduces pollution, and gives me a clearer mind before the day starts.
