Multiple-choice cloze

For questions 1-8, read the text below and decide which answer (A, B, C or D) best fits each gap.

Last summer I took a short break to a coastal town I’d only ever seen in photos, hoping to from work and spend more time outdoors. On the train I a blog post about local walking routes, and it encouraged me to to leave my laptop behind. At first I felt slightly anxious, because I’m used to checking messages every few minutes, but once I arrived I realised I could for my own free time instead of letting my phone control it. The hotel owner helped to by recommending a small cycling group that meets twice a week; I joined even though I usually go alone and only try new hobbies . The rides were challenging but enjoyable, and I began to notice the difference between being tired from exercise and being exhausted from stress. In the evenings, people would chat about remote working, online courses and the latest fitness apps, yet they also agreed that technology can be useful without . One teacher I met said her students often homework until the last minute, but they pick up ideas faster when lessons include real-life projects like recycling campaigns. By the end of the trip, I was looking forward to keeping these habits at home: walking more, sleeping better and cutting down on screen time.
