Multiple-choice cloze

For questions 1-8, read the text below and decide which answer (A, B, C or D) best fits each gap.

Last summer I decided to take a break from my busy office job and travel by train across the country, partly to and partly to do something better for the environment. I’d been putting it off for ages, but in the end I after coming across an article online about how much carbon short flights produce. On the first day I felt a bit awkward sitting opposite strangers, yet a simple question about the view helped , and soon we were swapping tips on cheap places to stay and local food to try. I brought my camera because photography is a hobby I only manage to enjoy , but the journey gave me time to practise and to each new stop. Of course, not everything went smoothly: one connection was cancelled, and I had to whether to wait for the next train or set off by bus instead. The station staff were polite but not especially helpful, so I for finding a solution and ended up sharing a taxi with two students who were a summer course. By the time I got home, I felt healthier, not just because I’d walked more, but because I’d switched off my phone and stopped checking messages every five minutes.
