The Lost Ticket

A first-person story about a day trip that goes wrong but ends well, focusing on problem-solving and kindness.

Last Saturday I decided to take a day trip by train to the seaside town of Brighton. I packed a small bag with a sandwich, a book, and my phone charger, and I left home early. At the station I bought a return ticket and found a seat near the window. Soon the train was moving fast, and I relaxed while I watched the fields and small villages go past. I checked my bag and my wallet, but I could only find some coins and my bank card. He asked me to show the receipt from the ticket machine, but I had thrown it away. We all looked under the seats, and there it was, stuck near the metal leg of my chair. When I finally arrived in Brighton, I walked along the beach and ate my sandwich in the sun. I went home tired but happy, and I promised myself to keep my ticket in the same pocket every time I travel.
